The leaf is shade-cured. Cured leaf is large in size, thin bodied, light brown with greenish tinge and with light veins in the lamino.

The leaf is sun-cured and fermented in bulks for a period of 25-35 days by breaking and remaking the buls 6-7 times. it is graded based on the leaand blemish of the leaf. the leaf is light to medium in body and brown to dark brown in colour, mild pungency.

Economic Use:
Used in the manufacture of cigars & exported to some countries for use in hookah tobacco paste.

For the manufacture of cigars, cheroots and snuff.

b) Nicotine : 2.5 - 4.5%
c) Sugars  : 1.5 - 2.0%

CHEROOT TOBACCO
 (TAMILNADU)

Physical Characteristics:
Stalk cut plants are wilted overnight and later air-cured (shade-curing) and fermented by making and remaking the bulks for 20 to 24 days. Leaves brown in colour with good aroma and taste.

Economic Use:
For the manufacture of cheroots and hookah tobacco paste.

Chemical Characteristics:
a) Nitrogen : 2.9 - 3.2%
b) Nicotine : 1.8 - 3.0%
c) Reducing Sugars : 2 - 3%

CHEWING TOBACCO

BLACK CHOPADIA

Physical Characteristics:
The primed leaf is sun-cured and later fermented in bulks till brown to dark brown colour develops. The leaf is medium to heavy bodied. Generally called Kala Chopadia.

Chemical Characteristics:
Used as chewing tobacco.




RUSTICA TOBACCO (CULCUTTI)

Physical Characteristics:
The primed leaf is sun-cured and later bulked. The leaf is medium to heavy bodied and greenish brown to dark brown in colour. also called culcutti tobacco.

Chemical Characteristics:
a) Total Nitrogen : 3.5 - 5.0
b) Nicotine : 3.0 - 6.0

c) Economic use :
Used as chewing tobacco hookah tobacco, for tobacco sheet making, for kreteks in landonesia, for kreteks in indionesia, pipe mixtures and cigarette blending to some extent.

CHEWING TOBACCO

Physical Characteristics:
Stalk-cut plants after wilting overnight ar cured in three different manners viz. sun-curing,smoke-curing and pit-curing, followed by fermentation in bulks. the leaf is large in size, medium to heavy bodied and brown to dark brown in 
colour.

CHEWING TOBACCO

* RED CHOPADIA
A wide range of chewing tobaccos are produced in India. the overage is 150 million kg with medium to very high nicotine content 

Physical Characteristics:
The primed leaf is sun-cured fro 10 to 12 days till the stem dries and the leaf develops yellow colour. The leaf is light to medium bodied and golden yellow in colour. Later, the leaves are tied into bundles and bulked for developing aroma.

Economic use:
Mostly for chewing. Also called Lal-Chopadia and Safna. The export packing ranges from 250 gm- 1000 gm and is available in bales of up to 100 kg and 200 kg cartons.
